Revolutionary time charter agreement for an ammonia-powered carrier
Yara Clean Ammonia and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) have finalized the first-ever time charter agreement for a medium-sized gas carrier powered by ammonia. This vessel, scheduled for delivery in November 2026, marks a significant milestone in reducing emissions within the maritime industry.
Major step towards a sustainable supply chain
This partnership, initiated in 2021, aims to develop practical applications for ammonia-powered ships and to create a more sustainable supply chain as global demand for clean ammonia increases. Yara Clean Ammonia, which operates the world's largest ammonia network, continues to strengthen its position in low-carbon maritime transport solutions. EMF currently has a portfolio of three VLACs – very large ammonia carriers – scheduled for delivery in 2027.
