A significant new momentum for the future of green ammonia trade

Oman is establishing itself as a leading exporter of renewable ammonia, with significant projects currently underway. Through its national hydrogen strategy and the Hydrom agency, Oman aims to produce 5.6 million tonnes of renewable ammonia by 2030, and over 30 million tonnes by 2050.

This shift will significantly boost long-distance ammonia trade, particularly towards Asia and Europe.

Long-term growth anticipated due to a $140 billion investment

Projects like SalalaH2 (1 million tonnes per year), backed by Marubeni, OQ, and Samsung, already have long-term purchase agreements in place. These volumes will be exported FOB or DAP from Salalah, requiring efficient and large-scale transportation solutions.

This structural shift is expected to increase the demand for VLACs (Very Large Ammonia Carriers), which are ideally suited for these long-distance trades. With Oman committing over $140 billion to green hydrogen and ammonia, the VLAC segment is well-positioned for strong and sustainable long-term growth.
